Obituary of Roberta Haughey Pope
POPE, Roberta H., died Tuesday, January 30, 2018, in Richmond, Va., at Westminster Canterbury, where she received kind, compassionate care from all. She was born in Baltimore, Md., in 1921. She was the widow of John Owen Pope Jr. She is survived by her two daughters, Sally Watkins Pope Gunn (Earl), Laura Lee Pope Hatton (David); five grandchildren, Allison (Kevin) Ferguson, Christopher(Elizabeth) Gunn, Rebecca (Matthew) Holmes, David Hatton III and John Hatton. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Brooke and Connor Ferguson, Madison, Kaitlyn and Brady Holmes, Ainsley and Corbin Gunn and David Bradley Hatton. She is also survived by two nephews, Clyde Heath Jr. and Glenn Heath; and a cousin, Kessie Smith. Mrs. Pope was a registered nurse in Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia and specialized in obstetrics. She was a graduate of the Women’s Hospital of Maryland (now a part of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center), a member of the Virginia Red Cross, The Guild of Needlepoint and Smocking Arts Guild, a devoted member of All Saints Episcopal Church since 1959. She expressed her joy and love of Christ by serving on several committees within the church, and her passion ministry was serving as a member and later Chairwoman for the Altar Guild. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered in a memorial service on Monday, February 5, 2018, at 11 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229. Following the service, there will be a reception in Thornton Hall. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to All Saints Episcopal Church and/or to Westminster Canterbury Richmond. Blessings to all.
