Robert Scott Watkins (Bobby), 63, of Richmond, VA, died on February 26, 2024 at home peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family after a year’s long battle with lung cancer. Bobby was born on January 13, 1961 in Richmond, VA. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Franklin P. Watkins. He is survived by his mother, Susan Watkins, wife, Peggy Watkins, son, Robert Watkins Jr. (Lindsay), daughter, Patricia Janney (Will), 3 grandsons, Robert S Watkins III, Hudson Janney and John H. Watkins, his brother Frank Watkins (Emily), and many nieces and nephews.
Bobby attended Collegiate School for 13 years and graduated in 1979. He was an active thespian and played football, baseball and lacrosse. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1983 where he played club lacrosse. He met his wife Peggy while studying at the Georgia and they married in 1984. Bobby worked in the petroleum industry for over 40 years ending his career at Advanced Fueling Systems, Inc.
Bobby loved sports, music, theater, hunting, fishing, family and of course, the Georgia Bulldogs. Bobby coached his children and many young athletes in soccer, basketball, football and lacrosse. He is still called “Coach” by many. He was a founding member and historian of the band Green Giant for 19 years. Bobby always lived life to the fullest and was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and coach.
Bobby’s visitation will be on Friday, March 1st at Woody’s Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. from 4-6 p.m. and the funeral will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 6006 Three Chopt Rd. at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The JHW Foundation, or St. Jude or Tunnels to Towers.
