Obituary of Robert Armstrong Lowry
In loving memory of Robert Armstrong Lowry who departed this life peacefully on June 1, 2024. He was born March 9, 1931 in Fairmont, West Virginia to Allie (nee, Armstrong) and Clyde Lowry. As a young boy he regularly played with the neighborhood children but always made it back to his house by 5 pm to listen to The Lone Ranger shows on the radio. When Bob was a teenager one of his jobs was working in a Funeral Home. He loved Big Band Swing music and Frank Sinatra. As an adult he was an avid tennis player at the country clubs he belonged to, playing tennis well into his 80s. After living briefly In Fairmont and Charleston, West Virginia, the Lowry family moved back to Huntington, West Virginia where Bob finished High School at Huntington High in 1948. He went to West Virginia University for one year, then transferred to Marshall University where he finished his undergraduate degree. He married his High School sweetheart, Alice Lutes, while still at Marshall University in 1951. After graduating from Marshall in 1952 the new couple moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he got his master's degree in Business Administration at the University of Michigan. Bob's first job was working for the General Electric Company in Louisville, Kentucky. After six years in Louisville Bob and Alice, with two young babies in tow, moved back to Huntington, West Virginia where he and his father owned a Hardware store. Six years later Bob worked for General Electric Company again and eventually relocated to Richmond, Virginia. In 1975 he formed his own construction company and designed and built residential homes until his retirement in 2001. He was well respected by his peers and won many awards for the exquisite homes he built throughout his career. In his spare time Bob enjoyed painting and drawing pictures. He was a parishioner of Bon Air United Methodist church. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Allie and Clyde Lowry, his wife of 60 years, Alice Lowry, his sister Jennie Ann Lindquist, and his son, Guy Lowry. He is survived by his sister, Mary Louise Douthat, his son, Scot Lowry, his four grandchildren, Bradford Lowry, Melissa Lowry, Jason Lowry, and Brandon Lowry, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday June 11, at Woody's Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Henrico, Va, 23229.
