Richard Edward Smith

Richard E. Smith 81, passed away on January 7, 2023 at his home in New Kent, Virginia. He was born on July 7, 1941 in Eastern Township - The County of Ottertail, Minnesota to Ed and Vangie Smith. He grew up with his brothers Don and Doug and his sister Barbara. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. While there, he witnessed the building of the Berlin Wall and lived to see it taken down in his lifetime. His position as Managing Director with Alexander Proudfoot allowed his family to live in Canada, Australia and South Africa over a 10 year period. While in retirement, he decided to rejoin the workforce as Frontline Manager for Fairfield/Wyndham in Williamsburg, Virginia. His loves were training horses, all things western, fishing, shooting and collecting classic guns, his wife Rochelle (Shelly) Smith, his daughter Lauren Smith and his family and friends (not necessarily in that order). A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229
