DuBois, Richard Matthew, 88, of Glen Allen, Va., passed away on October 13, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Madeleine (nee Desroches); four children, Lorraine (John) Burgess, Susan (Donald) Burnette, Nancy (Thomas) Mierswa, and David (Traci) DuBois; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Duke) Dodson, Amanda (Chris) Reed, Allison (Drew) Colby, Gray Burnette, Matthew (Regina) Mierswa, Elizabeth Mierswa, Bradley Burgess, Christopher DuBois and Katherine DuBois; three great-grandchildren, Tripp Dodson, Hannah Colby and Tucker Dodson; his brother, Larry DuBois; brothers–in-law, Paul Desroches and Tony Guadagnino; seven nephews, and many other extended family members and friends.
Richard did his undergraduate and graduate work at the City College of New York. He Served in the U.S. Army, was stationed in Korea, and received a presidential citation upon discharge. Upon returning home, Richard started a career at IBM where he spent the next 23 years, retiring as the Director of Litigation. After retirement,
Richard’s main interest was his family. He was proud of his status as first (and only) Commissioner of the Family Fantasy Football League, which he founded 20 years ago. He loved sports and particularly enjoyed playing golf and tennis. Born in Brooklyn, Richard loved rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers, switching to the Mets when the Dodgers left town, and was always loyal to his NY Giants.
Richard married Madeleine, the “girl next door,” and they raised their loving family in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. After retirement, they divided their time between Glen Allen, Va. and New Smyrna Beach, Florida. It was in New Smyrna Beach that Richard found his “second career,” serving on the board of the Holiday Cove South homeowners association for 22 years, and as the President for the last 12 years.
The family will receive visitors at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 491 Springfield Road, Glen Allen, Va., on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m., with a reception to follow immediately after. The burial will be in Edgewater, Florida at a later date.
