Rebecca D. Wood, 84, of Richmond, passed quietly in her home at Lakewood Manor on Saturday, August 13, 2011. She was born April 11, 1927 in Wakefield, Va., to the late Butler Guy and Estelle Drewery.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond C. Wood, two sons, Christopher Guy Wood of Richmond, and Jeffrey Ray Wood, of Roanoke. Two grandchildren, Michael C. Wood, Stacey L. Roberts, and one great grandchild, Trenton D. Wood, and her sister in law, Ella W. Johnson.
She attended Westhampton High School and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to Pan American Business College. She loved working at Thalhimers and later as secretary to the University of Richmond Librarian.
She was a member of the Westhampton Junior Women’s Club, and University of Richmond Friends of the Library. She enjoyed fishing and beach combing at the family home on the Rappahannock River, and collected many cats and books over her lifetime. Becky was a dedicated member of Ridge Baptist Church where she taught generations of Sunday school girls.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7pm, on Wednesday, August 17, at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond. Services will be held at 10:30am, on Thursday, August 18, at Ridge Baptist Church, 1515 Eastridge Rd, Richmond, VA 23229. Interment to follow at 3pm, at Harmony Grove Baptist Church, 7722 General Puller Highway, Topping, VA 23169. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to University of Richmond Friends of the Library or Ridge Baptist Church.
