POULIN, Mary Lou Mamie Whitney, passed away April 20, 2018. Mary was born April 7, 1931 and was the oldest child of James and Beulah Whitney of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Gabriel A. Poulin from France, who immigrated to America and became a naturalized citizen. Mary, also, tragically lost both sons, Charles “Chuck” Poulin and James “JP” Poulin in recent years. Survived by daughter, Sharon Zurik; Mary was preceded by brothers, Jake Whitney and Norman Whitney; and survived by sister-in-law, Geneviere Whitney; sister-in-law, Madeleine Vincent of France; brother, John Farmer of Oklahoma; daughters-in-law, Deb Loving and Joanie Thompson; grandsons, Andre Poulin and Mark Thompson; family and friends in France, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma; dear friends in her Richmond “Tops” group. Mary will be missed more than words can express. Mary retired from the City of Richmond in 1996, where she worked as a secretary for many years. Mary and her family lived for a year in France in the mid-1960s, returned to Michigan, and then moved to the Richmond area. She enjoyed flower gardening, needle crafts such as cross-stitch and crewel embroidery, took Tai Chi classes and was an avid reader. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where services will be held Wednesday, April 25, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at a later date.
