Marie Luise (Marlies) Dienemann Jarvis 80, of Henrico, Virginia, passed away December 21, 2017. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Richard Jarvis; daughter, Karen Pisarz (Ron); son, David Jarvis (Donna); and son, Jonathan Jarvis (Heather); grandchildren, Joshua Jarvis, Elly Jarvis, Ben Pisarz, Rachel Pisarz, Jake Jarvis, Sam Jarvis, Daniel Jarvis and Hayden Jarvis. Marlies is survived by her brother, Max Dienemann; and was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Elly Dienemann.
Marlies was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1937. She graduated from Eastern High School and attended University of Maryland on a full scholarship. She obtained a Masters of Education from Loyola College.
Marlies taught kindergarten, third grade and fifth grade in Baltimore and Harford Counties in Maryland. She taught all eight of her grandchildren piano and how to ice skate.
Marlies began ice skating at age 62 and enjoyed the companionship of her many friends at SkateNation. She took private and group lessons, entered skating competitions, performed in Christmas skating programs, was featured in Richmond Times-Dispatch article “Love for the Rink Strong at 77” and U.S. Figure Skating Magazine.
Visitation at the Woody Funeral Home on Parham Road 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 26 and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 27. A chapel service will take place at the Woody Funeral Home Parham Chapel on Thursday, December 28, at 10 a.m. Burial service will be held in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
