Lauren (Laurie Ann) McDevitt of Glen Allen, Virginia, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at the age of 60. She was born on August 16th, 1962, in Columbus, Indiana, and graduated from Graded High School in Sao Paulo, Brazil. There, she was an active participant in athletics and set the long-distance track record.
Lauren graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of General Science in Management and Business Communication. She also received a Master of Science in Health Administration through the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College of Virginia. Later in life, she continued her education through the University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies.
Starting in October 2022, Lauren worked for the University of Maryland Faculty Physicians as Director of Payor Contracting, Operations & Valued Based Programs. She was responsible for negotiating, implementing, and monitoring physician contracts with large national insurance companies. Lauren was instrumental in collaborating with physicians, administrators, and executive leaders to design and implement patient safety and clinical quality programs. Although her time at the University of Maryland was short, she made a huge impact and was professionally respected and personally loved.
Although extremely dedicated to her work and pursuit of education, Lauren prioritized her family and adamantly supported her three loving children, never missing a sporting or academic event. In her free time Lauren was actively involved in her monthly book club, weekly art classes, and the daily task of elevating and maintaining her prized garden. She was known to explore local wineries and festivals with her best friends and take care of her dog, Cora Lee, who meant the whole world to her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Robert Piskie.
Lauren is survived by her three children, Caitlyn (22), Caroline (19), and Sean (19). As well as her mother, Bernie Muench, and stepfather, LB Muench. She leaves behind her beloved siblings, Susan, Holly, Michael A., Heather, Marjorie, Julie, and Michael L.
A visitation will be held Monday, August 14, 2023, from 6 to 8PM at Woody Funeral Home-Parham Chapel. Family and friends are invited to attend a service and celebration of life at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church (4491 Springfield Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23060) on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation with the family will precede the service beginning at at 9:30 a.m. It is encouraged to wear lots of color in her honor.
