Kenny Ray Jackson, 66, passed away at his home in Henrico, Virginia, on Sunday, September 29, 2024. He was the son of Woodrow Jackson, Sr., and Emma Alford Jackson late of Simmesport (Avoyelles Parish), Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jack Dixon of Las Vegas, Nevada, and sisters Frances Cannon of Seattle, Washington, Shirley Hat of Port Arthur, Texas, Alberta Green of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Joan Jackson of Port Arthur, Texas.
He is survived by his brother Woodrow Jackson, Jr., of Seattle, Washington, and sisters Carol Solomon of Port Arthur, Texas, Caroline Jackson of Houston, Texas, and Evelyn Jackson Smith of Seattle, Washington. In addition is is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of G. W. Carver High School in New Orleans where he excelled on the football, basketball, and baseball fields. Some of his best memories occurred in the Superdome where he shook the hand of Mohamad Ali, vied for state championships, and watched the Saints play football-from the pigeon seats. (For sure, he watched the Saints play at Tulane Stadium too.)
He was a big man with a heart as big as he was. He always protected and took the side of the underdog or bullied. He was the most loyal of friends. He did not tolerate hatred, disrespect or cruelty in anyone or in any way.
He will be missed with heavy hearts by his family and his many good friends, especially Russell Sparrow and Timmy Carter of New Orleans and Sara Payne of Henrico, Virginia.
