John Oliver Pugh, Jr., 89, of Henrico, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 25, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Pugh and Lillian Eanes; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Whitehead; and his brother, Thomas Butler. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Jean W. Pugh; and his son, David S. Pugh, and his wife, Lona. John was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and earned certificate in commerce in the field of accounting from University of Richmond. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War on the USS Epping Forest LSD 4 where he was awarded several medals including: Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, United Nations Korea Service Medal, and a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. John worked as an accountant for Hygrade Meat Products and retired from both the City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities and the Internal Revenue Service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229. Family and friends will then process to Westhampton Memorial Park for a 1 p.m. service in the mausoleum chapel. The family would like to extend their gratitude to his oncologist, Dr. Rachna Raman, as well as the doctors and staff at The Center for Wound Healing at Retreat Doctors’ Hospital for their compassion and care.
