IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home-Parham
JoAnn Schardein, 90, passed away peacefully into heaven on January 21, 2023, at her residence in the Spring Arbor Memory Care Cottages of Richmond.
Born in Louisville Kentucky on July 1st, 1932, to James and Geneva Royalty, the youngest of three children. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Erin and brother Jim. She was a proud alumnus of Presentation Academy, a private all girls’ catholic school.
JoAnn married Daniel Schardein Jr. of Louisville on April 25th, 1953, and married for 58 years until his death in 2011. The family relocated to Richmond Virginia in a transfer with the Reynolds Metals Co. in 1963. She loved children, music, singing and her dogs. Most of all though she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren which she cherished and spoiled. A sign at the door to her home stating “Parent Rights End Here” clearly attested to this.
She is survived by her children, Dan (Teresa), Greg and Brad (Cindy); grandchildren, Bret (Sapna), Brian (JoJo), Lauren (Starling), Brittney (Brent), Courtney and Tyler; great-granddaughters, Audrey, Amelia, Daniella, Anika and Ava.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road in Richmond Virginia. A private interment will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Columbarium.
Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Richmond Chapter or St Michael’s Catholic Church in Glen Allen, VA.
