Joan Elizabeth Thompson, 71, of Richmond, Va. (formerly of Colliers, W. Va.), passed away the evening of Tuesday, December 12, 2023. She was an Irish Twin and a Bonnie Lass of Scottish heritage.
Joanie was employed for 50 years at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Va., most recently as the Point of Care Coordinator. Joanie graduated from Brooke High School in Wellsburg, W. Va. in 1971 and continued on to receive her first medical lab training at Weirton Medical Center that same year. Joanie went on to work in Lewistown, Pa. until 1973.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Virgil Thompson; husband, James Patrick Poulin; and son, Mark D. Thompson.
Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Norma Jean Thompson; son, Andre G. Thompson Poulin; grandson, Kyle D. Thompson; siblings, Virgil George Thompson, Joyce N. Thompson-Bucci, Margie G. Thompson, Norma Jean Thompson, James Graham Thompson, Deborah A. Klash, Lorraine C. Martinovich, Pamela S. Mazaris; and several nieces and nephews.
Joanie was very loved and respected by family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 23, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 380 Penco Rd., Weirton, W. Va. 26062. A second visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 29. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston, Va.
