I was sadden to learn of Jerry’s passing.  He was the ultimate renaissance man and treated me and my family with abundant kindness and generosity.  His memory will live on with me. Mick

Jerry was my roommate at VMI for two years. He was the "rock" of the room - he always saw a humorous side  in the VMI rules and regulations and he kept Fred (my other roommate) and me out of trouble and relieved our anxiety!  Jerry, I'll miss you. Jeanne, Martha and I will stay in touch.

Sympathies from the extended Woo Family relatives in the Washington, D.C. area.  It’s been a long time since the laundry days before moving to Richmond, VA.  Although visits and gatherings have been few and far between, we remember the days of our youth.  May Jeanne, Jeffrey, and the rest of the family continue to keep the fond memories ‘til we meet again.  God holds our loved ones celebrating heavenly birthdays with a grand reunion.  Keep the faith and carry on the Woo legacy.

Jerry was First Captain (Corps Commander) of the TJ Cadet Corps (Junior ROTC) when I joined the battalion as a freshman in 1964.  He was my hero. By his example, he showed me to how to pursue excellence not only as a cadet, but in life as well. In my senior year, I was promoted to Corps Commander myself.  What an honor to walk in Colonel Woo's footsteps! Decades later (August 2012), we met again for a reunion of the TJHSCC at TJ. I've posted a picture of us, each with the 3 diamonds (indicative of our top rank) on our lapels. At that time I, told Jerry how much he had inspired me, and what a difference had made in my life. Now he is gone. But his legacy of goodness and greatness will be a guiding star for me as long as I live.

Jerry Woo epitomized the consummate and ultimate  "VMI GRADUATE" with his lifetime devotion to Excellence, Honor, Duty, Family and Country!
  For those of us who had the privilege to share the VMI experience with Jerry ,his inspiration continues and shall live on.

Jerry is my Brother Rat in the Class of 1970 at VMI. We roomed close to each other all four years. Jerry always had a happy expression no matter the challenge of the day. His smiling face brought out the best in me.
Rest In Peace Brother Rat!

My mother, Emily, is the oldest of the Woo siblings. She and Uncle Jerry are 10 years apart in age. In the 1970s, she had to move my brothers -- Eddie and Howard -- and me from Alabama to Massachusetts on her own, not easy as a single parent unsure of what the future held. Uncle Jerry drove to the airport to see us off, and to offer his support, encouragement, and a patient and kind presence. Over the years, Uncle Jerry would drive to visit us in Boston. He had a great sense of humor and would always make us laugh! I remember he and my brothers were wrestling over, of all things, a hotdog. After he left, we found the dried up and shriveled hotdog in my brother Eddie’s bed. Once again, he made us laugh!

May the memory of times shared with Uncle Jerry make us all smile and laugh.

Jerry was First Captain (the highest-ranking officer) of the Thomas Jefferson High School Corps of Cadets during my "rat" year. Unlike so many officers whose rank exceeded their maturity, Jerry was respectful, serious and patient, even to "the least of these." He would not participate in the hazing, demeaning and taunting of us "rats." His integrity, decency, respectfulness, seriousness and faith-in-action was intact as a teenager and was burnished throughout his life. We could do no better than to live our lives based upon Jerry's example. I was blessed to have him as a leader and a friend.

Many of us served with Jerry in the TJ cadet corps.   It was a time of an unpopular Vietnam war - and many of us wanted to be prepared for war after high school or college.  Jerry picked VMI along with a few of us.   All our brother rats will miss Jerry - but we will see him again in the “ratline” of Heaven.   Smile Jerry - you’ll see us again.   Prayers to Jeannie

My sympathies to Aunt Jeanne, cousin Jeffrey and the entire Woo family and friends of Uncle Jerry...a fond/funny memory I have is when he came to visit us in Boston...his sister Emily...my brother Eddie, my sister Susie and me...I was 11/12 then...Uncle Jerry had this brand new simple 10 key calculator and we were playing with it...he was so worried that we were going to break it!!...how he loved his gadgets...RIP Uncle Jerry...your nephew Howard.
