He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Marie Groome; and siblings, Clifton Groome, Virginia Fauber, Kenneth Groome, Emmett Groome.
James retired in 2003 from the Virginia Department of Corrections where he worked as a corrections officer. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a long time member of West Point Church of God. James enjoyed spending his free time watching every type of sport imaginable.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Linda Meyerhoffer, Donna McDaniel; grandchildren, Charlotte Papineau (Paul), Amanda Rand (Will), Britton Vermaaten, Michelle Vermaaten; great grandchildren, Caleb Papineau, Emily Rand, James Rand; nephew, Wayne Groome (Janet); as well as a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, at West Point Church of God, 500 Main St., West Point, Va. 23181. Inurnment will be held at 1 p.m on Wednesday, August 30, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Ln., Richmond, Va. 23222.
