Howard Delmont Smith

SMITH, Howard D., 80, of Varina, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015. He retired with 38 years of service in the National Guard and was an employee of the state and federal governments. He was a member and deacon of Ft. Lee Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Porter and Maggie Smith, and is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nettie E. Smith; four stepchildren, Randy M. Davis (Carolyn), John C. Davis, Teresa L. Palmore (Dennie) and Virginia M. Burnett; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Porter H. Smith (Mary), and many other family and friends. A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, at Fort Lee Baptist Church, with an interment to follow in Washington Memorial Park.
