Obituary of Hilda Rose DiNardo
Our dear mother and grandmother, Hilda Rose DiNardo (“Mimi” to her grandchildren), 88, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 9, 2022, in Richmond, Virginia. She devoted her life to her family and will be missed terribly. Hilda was born in Benwood, West Virginia, on August 19, 1934, to Frank and Frances Yanni. She graduated from Union High School in 1953 and married Frank R. DiNardo on August 31, 1957, at St. John Catholic Church in Benwood, West Virginia. Frank and Hilda lived in Athens, Ohio, where Hilda worked while Frank obtained his college degree. Later, they lived in Syracuse and Poughkeepsie, New York, and Bowie, Maryland, before settling in Haymarket, Virginia with their children. In 2010, Hilda moved to Richmond, Virginia. Hilda was an active member of the South Bowie Women’s Club. Once her children were older, Hilda returned to work and became the credit department manager at Montgomery Wards. Later, she worked at the State Farm Services Center in Manassas, Virginia. She retired from State Farm in 1994, on the same day her first grandchild was born. Hilda enjoyed playing bridge and bingo, and spending time with family and friends. She delighted in her grandchildren, especially Erin, who cared for her tenderly during the last years of her life. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, and three siblings. She is survived by her twin sister, Helen Savoldi of Glen Dale, West Virginia, and her children, Annemarie Cleary (Pat) of Glen Allen, Virginia, Dona Grado (Jeff) of Leesburg, Virginia, and Michael DiNardo (Siobhan) of Los Angeles, California. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Emma Cleary, Isabella Grado, Erin Cleary, Sophia Grado, Fionn DiNardo, and her nieces, nephews, and friends. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Road, Glen Allen, Virginia, with interment to follow on November 22, at 2 p.m. at Stonewall Memorial Gardens in Manassas, Virginia. The family will receive visitors beginning at 9:30 a.m. on November 21, 2022, at St. Michael’s. The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at Lakewood Manor and those at St. Mary’s Hospital, particularly those with Bon Secours Hospice, for the loving care they provided to Mom. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Glaucoma Research Foundation.
