Raised in Fredericksburg at Smithsonia, an antebellum home used as a hospital during the Civil War, Earle developed a strong interest in American history, genealogy and relic hunting. He was a member of The Society of the Descendants of Francis Epes I of Virginia, The Society of the Lees of Virginia, and the Jamestown Society.
Earle was a graduate of Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, Hampden-Sydney College (Lambda Chi Alpha, and Chi Beta Phi – honorary scientific society), and the University of Richmond Graduate School.
He retired from United Va. Bank in 1987 as a senior vice president and spent many wonderful years fishing on the Essex Mill Pond and Cohoke Pond.
Earle is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy Elliott, daughter Anne Ware Maloney, son Richard Lee Ware (Cheryl) and grandchildren Katherine Maloney, Anna Lee Ware, Thomas Ware and Molly and Colleen Trott.
The family will receive friends on August 5, 2018 from 1-3 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home (Parham). A family service will be held at a later date. The family suggests expressions of sympathy be sent to Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2924 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23227.
