He was preceded in death by his parents, Elwood Rhodes and Mary Alice Rhodes and his daughter, Kara Anne Rhodes. He is survived by his wife, Judith Rhodes; his children, Kristopher Rhodes and wife Dina Rhodes, Jason Rhodes and wife Jessie Rhodes, and Amanda Disse (Rhodes) and husband Brad Disse; his grandchildren, Declan Rhodes, Peyton Rhodes, Christian Disse, Avery Disse, and Charlotte Lily Rhodes.
He graduated from John Marshall in 1959. He attended Virginia Commonwealth University for one year but left to work and support his family. He worked for C&P Telephone, Lucent Technologies, Northrup Grumman, and Virginia Department of Transportation as a Systems Technician. While at C&P Telephone he was a member of the CWA (Communication Workers of America) serving as Union Representative.
He never missed the chance to take his children and grandchildren to a sports practice and rarely if ever missed a game. He volunteered as a baseball coach with Sandston Little League. He enjoyed golf and fishing especially with his grandchildren. He was a fan of NASCAR, UNC Basketball, Alabama football, and a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan.
He will be remembered as a Christian man that loved Jesus and his family, was devoted to his wife Judith, was proud of his children and grandchildren, and for always asking how he could help his family. He will be remembered as a loving, caring, thoughtful, respectful, man that always kept his word. Although he will be forever missed his memory will always be carried in the hearts of his family.
The family will receive visitors at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, on Friday, March 11, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Varina Church of Nazarene, 5350 Darbytown Rd., Richmond, Va. 23231, Saturday March 12, 2022 at 3 p.m. If you would like to send flowers, please send them to Nelsen Funeral Home and request they be delivered on March 11, 2022 by 12 p.m.
