Obituary of Doris Hoch Richards
Doris Hoch Richards, of Richmond Virginia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (Gigi), passed away on January 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving daughters. Doris is survived by her children, Carol Parker of the home, Sherry Richards of Raleigh, NC, and Tracey Floridia of Richmond, VA, grandson Jason Foster and his wife Kristen, and Doris’s precious great-grandchildren, Olivia and Charlie Foster, all of London, England. Doris was born in Butler, PA on May 7, 1922. She graduated Grove City College with a degree in Commerce where she was honored in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, and was a member of Phi Sigma Chi sorority. In 1943 Doris married her cherished husband, Charles (Chuck) Richards who predeceased her in 1999. Doris began her married life working at the Heckett Corporation while Chuck was away serving in the US Army in Italy during World War II. Upon his return to the United States, Doris and Chuck lived in various places finally settling in Richmond, VA in 1954. Doris and Chuck became very active in their community and with Epiphany Lutheran Church which continued until her death. She was a member of the Mary Margaret Circle, Lutheran Church Women of America, and served as the first female President of the church’s Council in the 1960’s. Doris was intricately involved in and was a Vice President of the Charles B. Richards Company. She and Chuck were cofounders of Signature Kitchens of Charleston in Charleston, SC which is still a thriving business today. Beginning in the 1970’s until she left to become our Angel, Doris and Chuck shared their love of the Outer Banks at their home on the Sound where they enjoyed fun and fellowship with family and friends. They passed this love and beautiful memories to their children and their families who adore sunsets on the Sound as much as Doris and Chuck did. Others who cherish her memory include nieces and nephews, and extended family scattered around the world and all of her daughters’ friends who were Doris’s “other daughters” as they each wanted Doris to be their Mother, too. Doris truly treated “her girls” as if they were her own. A Memorial Service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1400 Horsepen Road, Richmond, VA 23226, (intersection of Horsepen and Monument Avenue), on Monday, January 31 at 11:00 am to be immediately followed by a reception. Those in attendance must wear a mask, please. The burial at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23238, will be at 2 o’clock pm. Arrangements are being handled by Woody Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Parham Road. If you wish to make a contribution in Doris’s memory, please consider donating to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital or a charity of your choice.
