Charlie was born November 29, 1949 in Richmond, Virginia. He was the son of the late Vonda S. Noel and Grayson A. Noel, and step-mother, Phoebe Noel. He was the younger brother of the late Ralph A. Noel of Maryland. He was also predeceased by his and Carol’s infant son, Curtis A. Noel.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Carol. He is also survived by two loving daughters, Angela Brittingham (Mike) and Julie Ruth (Jason); five adoring grandchildren, Lauren and Grayson Brittingham, and Caleb, Emily, and Lucy Ruth; sister-in-law Linda Noel, niece Terri Tranmer (Joe), nephew Edward Noel (Heather); and many cousins, extended family and close friends.
Charlie grew up in Richmond and attended Douglas Freeman High School before joining the U.S. Navy in 1968.
After the Navy, he went into food sales with Richmond Restaurant Service. After almost 40 years, he had to retire due to his health condition. He was loyal, hardworking, dedicated to his customers, and a friend to all.
He always had fun coaching his daughter’s softball teams at Tuckahoe Little League for many years. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, tennis, blues guitar, piddling around the yard, and a good martini on our patio.
He was the best kind of man, loving, kind, tough, but fair, with a calm, common sense demeanor that often came with a joke and a laugh. His one-liners are legendary and still live on through his family and friends.
He cared deeply about his family, friends, country, this world, and God.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, August 27 from 2-6pm, and a celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Saturday, August 28 at 11am, both at Woody Funeral Home-Parham. (1771 N. Parham Road)
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
