IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home-Parham
Carolyn Coutts Baker, daughter of Welford Lyon and Eunice Scherer Coutts, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on January 12, 2024. She was born in Richmond, VA on July 15, 1944 and graduated from Hermitage High School. Following high school, she worked for the Federal Reserve until she became a stay at home mother, the “job” she cherished the most. Carolyn raised her daughters in Franklin, TN and Atlanta, GA, before heading back to her Virginia roots. She re-entered the workforce in the accounting department of SEC before heading happily into retirement from The Virginia Reciprocal Group.
Carolyn was best known by her many dear close friends as having a zest for life and loved being anywhere tropical. Her passion to travel to warm, sunny places ensured her always having a great time with a smile on her face. She loved sharing her baking skills, shopping, and was always up for a cocktail hour. Three granddaughters soon filled her heart with such joy over the years. Carolyn was always only a phone call away to help anyone in need.
Surviving Carolyn are her daughters, Stephanie Baker Jones (Howard Giles Jones) of Calhoun, GA, and Leslie Baker of Richmond, VA, as well as her three granddaughters, Elizabeth “Grace” Jones of Atlanta, GA, Anne Fogle Jones and Mary Margaret “Maggie” Jones also of Calhoun, GA. She is also survived by her and Leslie’s faithful rescue dog, Cooper. She is predeceased by her brother Welford Lyon Coutts, Jr. of Clemmons, NC.
A Memorial Service will be held on January 18, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Woody’s Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn Baker’s memory may be made to Richmond SPCA, 2519 Hermitage Road, Richmond, Virginia 23220 or www.richmondspca.org.
