Carl Thomas Saunders

Carl Thomas Saunders, 99, of Sandston passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary B. Saunders; four brothers, Herbert, Donald, Thomas “Tommy” and his twin brother, Clayton Saunders; and one sister, Ruth Cocke Nagy. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia A. Saunders; son, Ronald Saunders; daughter, Susan Saunders Wood and her husband, Robin of Mechanicsville; three grandchildren, Kelsey Gray, Jessica Saunders and Cameron Wood; brother, O’Neil Saunders of Richmond; and many nieces and nephews. He was a WW II veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre of the war. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church since 1963, where he volunteered for many activities and fundraisers. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 16, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 813 W. Nine Mile Rd., Highland Springs, VA 23075.
