MARSHALL, Byron Walker, Jr., 91, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2018. He was born on February 6, 1927, to the late Byron Walker Sr. and Janie Nichols Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Laura Smith Marshall; his son and daughter-in-law, Byron and Lisa Marshall; and his grandchildren, Katelyn and Bryce; and a sister, Dru Waring. Mr. Marshall grew up in the family's men’s clothing store, Marshall & Gregory, in downtown Richmond. He was a cadet corps alumnus of John Marshall High School, Class of 1944. He then studied at VMI as part of the Army Specialized Training Program before entering the Army Air Corp and serving during WWII. He later attended RPI (later to become VCU) and graduated with a B.S. in business in 1955. Mr. Marshall was employed by the health departments of the city of Richmond, State of Virginia and the County of Henrico, where he retired in 1991. He was active in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Tuckahoe YMCA, Henrico SALT and enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, March 24, 2018, 2 p.m., at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Private interment at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 11220 Nuckols Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23059 or to a charity of your choice.
