MORRIS, Alvie Edison, Sr., 85, of Sandston, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.D. and Lizzie Thomas Morris. An orthotics and prosthetics lab chief for McGuire VA Medical Center and a lifelong member of Corinth United Methodist Church in Sandston, he was a Tech Sargeant in the Air Force and a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the Virginia Air National Guard as Crew Chief on the C-47 that was used to transport multiple governors, was a past Commander and service officer of American Legion Post 242, and a long-term volunteer of McGuire VA Hospital; he served over 2000 volunteer hours. Alvie was distinguished as the Federal Employee of the Year in 1972. Alvie was a member of many community groups, most notably the Sandston Recreation Association, and involved in Scouts, the Model A Ford Club, Sandston youth football and baseball, and the FISH program. Alvie Morris Sr. is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 56 years; his sons, Alvie E. Morris, Jr. (Amy) and Robin W. Morris (Marjorie); and daughter, Lisa M. Major (Brian). He had seven grandchildren, Joshua, Ryan, Edison III and Anna Paige Morris, Olivia, Brian II and Aiden Major. He is survived by three of his eight siblings, Freda Robinson, Betty Waldrep (Dave) and Rachel Allgood (Larnie); and predeceased by one sister, Barbara Moody (Cut); and four brothers, Walter, Gene (Sarah), Francis and Drewry Stuart Morris (Patsy). Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231 on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 12 to 1 p.m. at La Crosse United Methodist Church, with service at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at La Crosse Cemetery.
