Lucie Mae Caddell Roland was born April 6, 1918 to James Albert Caddell and Ina Mae Jones Caddell in Aubrey, Texas. James Albert was from Alabama and Ina Mae (Jones) Caddell was from Tennessee. Lucie Mae's father Albert passed away later that same year at the age of 35 during the Spanish Flu epidemic leaving Ina Mae and the three children to fend for themselves.
Lucie Mae had two brothers, James Caddell and Leon Caddell who all lived on the Caddell Farm in Aubrey TX. Their mother later purchased a home in Denton, Texas where she worked as a tailor and seamstress to support their family. Lucie grew up in the city of Denton, Texas and attended the Denton school system. She was exceptionally smart and was double promoted twice. She graduated from Denton High School in 1935.
Lucie and her family moved to Dallas in the late 1930's, renting, and later purchasing a home in the East Dallas Area. Lucie had several jobs early in her career, but very soon was hired into the Life Insurance industry. She became the office manager of the Dallas, Texas office for Great National Life Insurance Company.
Lucie married Jack T. Roland Jr. in 1948 and remained married until 1966. Lucie and Jack enjoyed playing cards with family and friends as well as attending the sporting and family activities of her nieces and nephews. In 1966 Lucie purchased a home with her mother and provided care to her until her passing in the 1980's.
Lucie loved to participate in any type of table game. She played cards and dominoes throughout her life with friends and family. She was a master at Bridge. Lucie loved to travel both domestically and internationally. She has been to every state in the United States and traveled abroad to Europe on several occasions. Lucie was a very generous person with her time after retiring. She visited and served folks at several retirement centers in East Dallas including C.C. Young.
Lucie is survived by her nephew Leon J. Caddell and his wife Lois, nephew Ronald J. Caddell and his wife Betsy and niece Kay David and her husband Angus as well as many great nephews and nieces.
