Born on July 2, 1947, in Hammond, Indiana, Linda grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where she met and married the love of her life. Dedicated to helping others, Linda initially entered into various teaching and educational support roles in the public-school setting, before she joined the counseling department at Jesuit College Preparatory. A lifelong learner, she returned to college to obtain her Master’s in Counseling in order to play a more student-forward role at Jesuit. It was at that time that she became passionate about providing more appropriate and structured support for Jesuit students with attention and learning disorders. Later, she would open a counseling agency, where she would provide individual and family therapy services to individuals who struggled with managing their neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders.
Linda was also, and most importantly, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose devotion to her family was immeasurable. Linda touched the lives of all who knew her with her radiant smile, gentle and generous soul, boundless love and energy, kindness, compassion, and generosity. She brought light into the lives of all who knew her and will forever be in our hearts. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years Vincent Walkowiak, daughter Jenifer Walkowiak (Panos Konstantinopoulos), son Steven Walkowiak (Jaime Walkowiak), 4 grandchildren (Ethan Walkowiak, Liam Walkowiak, Beckham Walkowiak, and Alexander Konstantinopoulos), brother Vernon Schweigert (Rosie Schweigert), sister Bunny Gaska (Robert Gaska), and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on February 9, 2024, at St. Rita Catholic Church, with a reception to follow. Private burial to follow. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are requested in lieu of flowers.
