It is with great sadness that the family of Lester Joseph Bordelon, Jr., announces his passing on Friday, October 12, 2018, at the age of 84 well-lived years. Lester will be lovingly remembered by his family; wife Carol Antoinette Polakoff Bordelon, daughters Gwendolyn Renea Bordelon Thomason and Pamela Ann Bordelon Garber, two grandchildren, Krista Ann Garber Emerson and John Douglas Garber and one great granddaughter, Kinslee Belle Emerson and extended family and friends.
He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 26, 1934 to Lester Joseph Bordelon, Sr., and Evie Lee Redden Bordelon. There were eight children in his family – six boys and two girls. Lester was preceded in death by four of his brothers: Melvin Elvis Bordelon, Rudy Bell Bordelon, Raymond David Bordelon and James Edward Bordelon; and one sister, Era Voncille Bordelon Graves. We are still blessed with his sister, Jerry Ann Bordelon Cosby and brother Donald Richard Bordelon.
Lester loved his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving our great country with honest and faithful devotion from January 1952 to January 1955. He received a Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Medal and Korean PUC for his three years military service. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8627, Richardson, TX; The American Legion Post 321, Plano, TX; and Garland Elks Lodge #1984, Garland, TX.
Lester was a brilliant mechanic with a 40 year career beginning in Monroe, LA. He worked for several dealerships in the Dallas – Richardson area. For many of his mechanic years he was a front-end alignment specialist, and one of the best in the Dallas areas.
Lester enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved cooking, fishing and hunting. It was guaranteed that you could find him on the last Sunday of the Month at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post cooking breakfast. He was an avid fisherman and loved to host dinners with his catch for family and friends. He hand-cranked the most delicious homemade ice cream. He is known for the best gumbo in the state of Texas and no one ever delighted in a better fried turkey. He constantly kept himself busy and always made time for his family and friends. Lester loved life and celebrated every day to the fullest. His smile and beautiful blue eyes lit up the room and his personality and willingness to lend a hand to anyone made you love him. We will all miss his smile and his funny stories.
