WEATHERFORD, DOUGLAS WARNER passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Born to Robert Orr and Patsy Warner Weatherford on July 8, 1952, in Dallas, he grew up in Ferris, Texas, where he played saxophone in the school marching band and was valedictorian of his
Junior High graduating class.
The family moved to Dallas in 1967, where he graduated from W. T. White High School in 1970. In his senior year, he participated in the Vocational Office Education program, working at Frito-Lay both semesters. Douglas received his BBA from SMU in 1974 and was a member of the SMU-in-Spain program in the fall of his junior year. This opportunity sparked a lifelong love of European travel, and he visited the continent numerous times throughout his adult life.
His enduring love and companionship with Daniel Stokes began in February 1986, and the two were
formally married in Kelowna, B.C. on October 1, 2003. Early in their relationship, they developed a strong
love of Canadian travel, and for many years visited either the Eastern or Western Provinces annually. The
greatest joys in the couple’s lives occurred in December 1996, and June 1998, respectively, when eldest
brother, Robert, and his triplet brothers, William, Bradley, and Jack, were born to Doug’s brother David
and wife Kathleen. No greater gift could have been bestowed than to watch these four fine young men
grow into the wonderful and caring people they’ve become.
Doug worked for a time in the nonpartisan political action field and was a small business administrator for more than 25 years before retirement.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Guy and Floy Orr Weatherford of Ferris and Samuel and
Vivian Womack Warner of Dallas, and by his parents, Robert and Patsy Warner Weatherford.
He is survived by Daniel Stokes, with whom he shared almost 38 of loving devotion, their beloved Cavachon, Lucy, who brings only pure love to anyone she encounters, his dear brother and sister-in-law, David and Kathleen Weatherford, his beloved nephews Robert, William, Bradley, and Jack Weatherford, and his uncle, the Hon. Samuel Warner of Long Beach, California. Also to be acknowledged are the many friends and cousins with whom he shared wonderful memories, trips, and classic films, of which he is a devotee.
