A.W. Lott, 98, of Lubbock went to be with his Lord March 5, 2014. A visitation will be held at Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 South Greenville Ave., Richardson, Texas on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 6 until 8 pm. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held in the Sparkman Funeral Chapel 2 pm Thursday, March 13, 2014 with Dr. D. L. Lowery of First Baptist Church Lubbock officiating. Interment will be at the Dallas Forth Worth National Cemetery, Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:15am.
A.W. was born October 22, 1915 in Brandon, Texas to L.T. Lott and Lou Ella McMurry (Lott). The family moved to Lorenzo, Texas in 1919. He graduated from Lorenzo High in 1933 and married his sweetheart, Virginia Hobbs on October 22, 1935 in Lorenzo. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and was a Boy Scout Troop leader as well as serving in many other civic leadership and church positions.
A.W. was employed at the Lorenzo State Bank and later at the Lorenzo Textile Mill. He was active in the First Baptist Church in Lorenzo and later, after moving to Lubbock in 1970, became active in the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, where he was a member of the Timothy Class.
After retiring in 1989, A.W. and Virginia moved to Carillon (Windsong) in 2001 where they lived until Virginia passed away on September 6, 2013, one month short of their 78th wedding anniversary. Shortly thereafter A.W. moved to Dallas in order to be near family.
A.W. was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Lott, as well as his parents and spouse.
He is survived by three sons. Kenneth and wife Linda of Dallas, Texas, Jim of Kingsland, Texas, and David of Pompano Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Craig and Maury Lott, Chris and Shara Lott, and Robyn(Lott) and Phillip Tilger; as well as two step-grandchildren, Cheryl(Roberts) and Kyle Wright, and John and Stephanie Roberts, all of the Dallas area; nine great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas.
