He was born to his parents William G. Moss and Mildred Schafer in Jasonville, Indiana, a small coal mining town in Southern Indiana. He attended High School in Alton, Illinois. His freshman year was at Central College in Fayette, Missouri. After which he transferred and graduated from Purdue University with a B.A. degree in engineering.
Following graduation from Purdue, Bill accepted a job offer from the Boeing Company in Seattle. There, he was assigned to the engineering department where he wrote service bulletins and was a field service rep on the B-47.
At that time, he met his blind date and love of his life, Fay Griffin. They were married in 1955 on St. Patrick's Day.
Bill's Boeing career was interrupted for service in the US Army. He served in Yuma, Arizona where he ran hot weather testing on military vehicles.
Following his discharge from the Army, Bill returned to Boeing. He headed up the department which produced maintenance engine manuals for all Boeing commercial airplanes. During this time he was involved with introducing digital equipment and techniques into the production and distribution of these manuals. He was the Boeing representative to the Aircraft Industries Association, and at one time was the editor of the Boeing magazine. Bill retired in 1992 after 41 years of service with the Boeing Company.
After his retirement, Bill worked with his brother Jim building and restoring airplanes. Bill loved golf, motorhome travels, camping, fishing, singing and playing his guitar.
Bill enjoyed volunteering for many years with the Piazza Renton and the Renton Tuesday Farmers Market.
Bill and Fay have had a Renton address their nearly 65 years of marriage. They have four children, Biff, Joe (Donna), Brady, and Shannon Grella (Scott). They have five grandchildren, Twila Hofer (Luke), J.R. Moss, Maggie Brookes (Mitchell), Griffin and Alyssa Grella. They are also blessed with two little great grand girls, Summer and Khloe Hofer.
