Lynda passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Her passing was sudden and leaves the family with a deep sense of loss, as she was just recently preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James O’Brien. Lynda was just 74 years old and spent her entire life in Renton, growing up in the Skyway and Bryn Mawr area. She was the second of three children born to Fernadele Samelson and Lloyd Smith. As a child she was known for her silliness and tom-boyish sense of fun. Lynda attended Byrn Mawr elementary and Renton Junior and High Schools, graduating from Renton High School in 1961. Not long after, at the age of 19, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim, at St. Anthony’s in Renton. Lynda worked briefly at Boeing before raising her two sons Jim and Rick while enjoying her many artistic hobbies. Later she began a retail career working for A&H Stores, and managed Hallmark Stores for them in Kent and Renton. After retiring she spent her time gardening, travelling with Jim and their Pug, Coco, spending time with her siblings at their homes in Palm Springs and Winthrop, and being a loving grandma to three boys, which helped keep her spirit young at heart. Lynda is survived by her mother, Fernadele; her siblings, Sharon and Jerry; her sons Jim (wife Robyn) and Rick; and grandsons Chase, Connor and Rory.
