John Francis (Chebroux dit) Latendresse was born in Marion, Indiana on February 10, 1939 to George Joseph and Marie Ida May Latendresse. He was the youngest of eight to whom he remained close to the entirety of their lives.
John attended high school at Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Illinois as a boarding student. He then attended Marquette University. John enlisted in the United States Army on February 5, 1962, SFC5, E5, and spent the majority of his service in Germany.
Upon the honorable completion of his service in 1964, John returned to Markle, Indiana to join his brothers, Jules and Clayton in running the S&L Gravel Company.
John was introduced to a lovely farmer’s daughter, Suzanne Callison and they wed on November 11, 1967.
Shortly thereafter, John and Suzanne (Susie) joined brothers Jules, Clayton, sister Shirley and their families in Denver, Colorado as they ventured into a new business repairing Zenith televisions. John left Telequick and started on what would be a decades long career in real estate and property management.
John and Susie moved into their home in the Southmoor neighborhood of Denver, where they welcomed their son, Jason into the world on January 28, 1970. John and Susie forged lifelong friendships in their neighborhood and lived there until the summer of 2021 when they moved to Renton, Washington to be close to Jason and his family.
Famous for delivering snowstorm margaritas to the neighbors, giving the “bottom line”, and attending as many family celebrations regardless of location, John was often called the patriarch of the family. He faithfully called his sisters almost daily and loved keeping track of the many milestones of his nieces, nephews and their children.
John’s parents, brothers, Clayton and Jules, and sisters Ramona Larson, Mary Sue Urban and Sister Eugenia (Jeanne Kathryn) Latendresse preceded him in death.
John leaves behind his bride, Susie, son Jason, daughter-in-law Terri, grandchild Lucy Mae, sisters Joann Bosi and Shirley Latendresse, as well as the children and children’s children of his beloved siblings.
Trying to capture the depth of a man so loved and enjoyed is difficult. John was funny, loquacious, a good sport, enjoyed playing cards and loved a good quality scotch. He traveled by bike, boat, plane and cruise ship around the world. He dressed up for costume parties, Bronco’s games, and square dancing night. John boogied at weddings across the country and made visits to the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent in Tipton, Indiana where he had more fun than is probably appropriate.
John passed surrounded by family, and we know he is having a joyful reunion with his brothers, sisters, parents and friends that went before. He will watch over us all and our tears are only a small measure of the love we have for him. In tribute, John would want you to call your family and catch up on their day.
