She attended Garfield High School, Edmonds Community College, the University of Washington, and the University of Washington School of Law. Upon receiving her law degree she immediately started work as a Prosecuting Attorney for King County until she retired in 2013.
She was an active member of her community to include Campfire Girls, PTA, and youth soccer when her children were young. During retirement, she tutored children in the Homework Helpers Program and volunteered at the front desk for Southeast Seattle Senior Center.
Bernda enjoyed reading, cooking, travel, art, and caring for her pet bunnies Boo and Kady. She had an immense love for her friends and family and was always ready to help anyone no matter the circumstances. She donated to multiple charities including Wounded Warriors, Paralyzed Veterans of America, the ACLU, and ASPCA.
Bernda was preceded in death by her parents, son Mateo Jack, sister Catalina Bacani and brothers Timothy and Rodney Bacani. She is survived by her daughters Vanessa Kohr (Jamie) and Melanie Jack, her grandchildren Brandon, Mikaela, Devin, Otis, and Gabriela, her sister Nina Bacani and brother Urbano Bacani Jr. and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
