(Gregory) Ann (Wallis) Allred was born on March 28, 1921, to Charles Samuel and Celia Mary (Emma) Wallis in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. She passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013, in Renton, Washington, at the age of 92.
Ann, as all knew her, was named Gregory to appease certain family members. Her mother wanted to at least give her a female middle name, so “Ann” was chosen. Whether it was because of her name or because of her nature she carried a tough attitude with her throughout her life.
She met Ivan Russell Allred at a skating rink in San Francisco while he was serving in the Navy during WWII. They married on October 11, 1942, in Reno, Nevada, settling in the Riverton Heights area of Seattle where they raised four girls.
Ann worked hard to take care of her children during the day and supplement the family income at night. She found great joy as she discovered the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and served in many capacities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she learned many new skills, including music directing, teaching, leadership skills, and was able to further her desire to give compassionate service. She served for 20 years in the Seattle Temple, and 18 months on a mission to San Bernardino, California.
She had a strong sense of finding out about her ancestors, and one of her major hobbies was doing genealogy work. She would take the family on summer vacations, stopping along the way at rest homes to visit relatives and gather interesting family information that would have been otherwise lost if not for her efforts.
As Ann’s knowledge of our Savior grew, so did her desire to be a good Christian as she quietly went about bringing joy into the lives of others who knew and loved her. She was known for her sense of humor and the ability to make others laugh. She could be teased and could give it right back.
Ann is survived by her four daughters, Sandra Lee Hungerford (Charles), Luana Marie Allred, Shirley Ann Lemans, and Alice Kay Jensen; grandchildren, Gary Robert Hoberecht, Jr., Darren Michael and David Leslie (Ann) Hungerford, Andrea Michelle (Curtis) Thorfinson, Dennis Nicholas Hungerford, Heather Ann Puett (Sean), Jennefer Adelle Boyer (Jason), Tiffany Dawn and Gregory O’Keefe, Kira Celeste Cohoe (Michael), and Wesley Spridgeon (Jen); 24 great and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Barlow and Louise Ahern, and two brothers, Samuel and David Wallis; and others once and still a part of her family.
Her parents, her sister, Charlotte, and grandchildren, Daniel Hungerford, Johnathan, Lawren, Laura and Sara Jensen, and two great grandchildren predeceased her.
A special thanks to family, friends, neighbors, caregivers and all who have shown their love and support during these past years. Your thoughts and prayers have indeed been felt and have been appreciated.
