He was born on March 2, 1934, to Ted and Alicia (Kennedy) Gervais in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Alicia Gervais, wife Leona A. Gervais, brothers Arnold (Max), Harvey, sisters-in-law Loretta and Jean Gervais, in-laws Delbert and Mary Duffey, brother-in-law Cam and sisters-in-law Joan, Barbara, and Clara Duffey. He is survived by his only child, daughter, Amber Gervais, and sister Leona J. Gervais along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dad was determined, independent and stubborn and that showed throughout his life. After losing his mother in his early teens he left home and worked at various farms throughout southern Saskatchewan. Several of these farms became a surrogate family, however, he never stayed long enough to fully connect and that continued into his adulthood. Around 1960 while at a dance with friends in Moose Jaw he met mom and they married in the fall of 1961. He worked a few jobs before starting his nearly 25 year career with the Province of Saskatchewan as the Bookstore Manager at Saskatchewan Technical Institute, Moose Jaw (now Saskatchewan Polytech, Moose Jaw campus).
A few things that dad enjoyed were music, animals, especially dogs, and watching horse racing. Through the years during the summer we travelled by car to several places throughout the United States and Canada, such as, Toronto, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Nashville and Memphis.
Things changed in 1987 after dad retired and he moved us to Regina in early 1988. He tried to keep himself occupied, but grew restless and he and mom separated. He moved multiple times and tried to find that “something” which he never quite found throughout his entire life. In December, 2005, dad suffered a stroke that confined him to a wheelchair and paralyzed his right side, however, he continued fighting to keep moving forward. He eventually ended up in a personal care home and then Parkside Extendicare by fall of 2015 where he resided until the end of his life.
Thank you to the staff at Unit 4B at the Pasqua Hospital, Parkside Extendicare and Courtesy Care Home who over the years cared for dad.
No Funeral service will be held.
