Mary was predeceased by her husband I. John Hornung; her parents and 6 siblings. She is survived by her children Jerry (Joan), Arnold (Elaine), Audrey (Allan Hoffman), Richard (Sharon) and Randy (Marilee); 13 grandchildren; 23-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was born on a farm in the Grayson district to Nick and Anna Eckes. She and her husband John owned and operated a farm supply business which involved farm equipment, bulk fuel, auto sales and service. Mary supported her husband who served as Mayor of Grayson for 23 consecutive years. Guests at the family dinner table were a daily occurrence. She was an excellent cook and hostess, being hospitable and generous to everyone with her time, resources and talents. Among her many skills, including having been an accomplished seamstress, she was an artist whose paintings are treasured by family and friends.
Mary's greatest love were her grandchildren, which she called her "Chuples", assuring each one individually of their special qualities and importance. Each one of them is convinced that they were "The Favourite". Fond memories remain of this connection and the deep commitment to her faith, which she would share with her grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grayson on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.victoriaavenuefuneral.com
