Dad was a hardworking and gracious man. He was always a farmer through practice and later in life, at heart. He also enjoyed a career in senior care at Wascana Hospital and Pioneer Village. He proudly maintained the offices of SRNA for many years as his “night job”. Wherever he worked or when helping friends and family he gave his all and shared his many skills. He took pride in his workmanship and was always willing to teach others, with unending patience, to become more adept at whatever the task at hand was. His goal in life was to care for and provide for his family.
Above all else, dad was a caring family man. When mom was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, he compassionately cared for her at home and through the many years she lived at Pioneer Village. Right up to her passing, there was rarely a day that he did not care for her and made sure she ate. As dad’s health declined over the past two years, he fought hard to stay independent. He accepted whatever situation he faced without complaint and remained kind, humble and appreciative of his caregivers. Dad was a man of faith and in his own words was prepared for the next chapter of life.
The last year of his life was spent as a resident of Bethel Manor Care Home. Our family thanks the residents for their friendship and the staff for their care.
Dad, you worked hard throughout your life and consistently demonstrated to us what loving your family really meant. Your smile when any one of us walked in the door told us we were loved. You lit up when the great-grandchildren were in the room. Every visit you asked how everyone was and if everything was OK. You taught us the importance of family, integrity and graciousness. We were blessed to have you as our dad, father-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother. You are now free of illness and pain. You are at peace. We love you and will see you soon!
“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” Proverbs 20:7
In honor of dad’s wishes, the family will hold a private celebration of his life.
