Eileen passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:44 p.m. in the Pasqua Palliative Care Unit, where she received incredible compassion and care from an amazing team of staff. She was surrounded by the love of her family. Eileen was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on September 25, 1927, making her 94 years young, or as she would always say “as old as my tongue and a little bit older than my teeth.” She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Rev. Donald J. Hutton; father James Murray; mother Henrietta Chrysler; and siblings Margaret Caldwell, (James) Lorne Murray and Robert Murray. She is survived by her children Murray Hutton, Gary Hutton, Heather Hutton, and Nadine Ganong; grandchildren Wendy Blacke, Stephen McFarlane, Damien Hutton, Christine Ganong, Nicole Ganong, Amber Larson, Dana Larson, Lindsey Larson, Katie Ganong, and Dakota Larson; great-grandchildren Leland Hannant, Charlotte Ganong, and Darwin Gassner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Eileen was an amazing daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Whenever you needed a caring, listening ear, she was always there for you. She loved life so much and lived every day to the fullest.
After her schooling she starting working for The CIBC and then in 1954 began her career with The RBC, where she worked until 1964. While working as a bank teller she met her husband, Rev. Donald J. Hutton. They married in 1958 and went on to enjoy 40 wonderful years together. During their marriage they were blessed with four children, then grandchildren and great-grandchildren to come along. Donald became a United Church Minister in 1966 and was ordained in 1971. After that, her own career with the bank was traded for one of traditional motherhood and she became involved with the UCW (United Church Women). She spent her life helping those in need and she found joy running the Sunday School. Eileen took part in all the church activities and was always happy to provide her amazing baking and various crafts to the church socials, potlucks and fundraisers. Through the Ministry Eileen relocated several times. She went from Ontario to Alberta and then retired in Regina, Saskatchewan.
Children always brought her so much joy and she cherished every moment she had to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spoiled them every chance she got, making sure they had plenty of snacks available while she played with them, sharing toys and games. Some of the most memorable ones were Polly Pockets and Crazy 8’s, or when she’d help out with a puzzle or two.
Growing up and experiencing life with her was such an adventure. She loved to cook and bake, and offered custom desserts for grandchildren’s birthdays when all the cake got to be too much in September. We are always going to remember the favorites: lasagna, spaghetti, pork chops, cherry cheesecake and date square are some of the few recipes we will have to master ourselves. She showed her love for others through her knitting; making blankets, scarves, sweaters, and just about anything else if she knew it would make you feel warm and loved. She even knitted and donated tiny hats and sweaters for premature babies. Her fingers would always be working away at some project while she watched her favorite shows: The Lawrence Welk Show, Little House on the Prairie, and Are you Being Served, to name a few. She always loved old Gospel music and Irish Rovers, it became very soothing to her through her final days.
She is very loved by all who knew her and everyone will cherish the memories they have with her forever. She was a stable source of positivity and strength and inspired those around her.
As per Eileen’s request, there will be no funeral service. A private family interment will be held at a later date.
