It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Cliff (Pops) Hagen sadly announces his passing after a brief, courageous and dignified battle with cancer on August 19, 2014 with his loving family at his side. We are thankful for the care of the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. Cliff was predeceased by his parents Oscar and Edith Hagen, his mother in law Ann Walters and his brother in law Ben Bell. He is survived by his loving, wonderful and dedicated wife Joan, his three children; Troy (Judy and her children Karlee and Natielle), Darren (Diane), Sharon (Bob), his four grandchildren Lisa, Landon (Jeanine), Zoe and Sophia, his two great grandchildren Jax and Nate as well as a dear aunt Lil, numerous cousins and many caring and beloved friends. Cliff was born in Kandahar, SK, and at a young age moved to Regina and lived his life as a proud Regina resident. In 1952 he met a beautiful young lady Joan (Nanny) and three years later married his sweetheart. August 20, 2014 was to be their 59th wedding anniversary. He started his work career at Sask Power and was fortunate to obtain a sought after job as a gas serviceman. Through his work at Sask Power he and Joan met many of their lifelong friends. While at Sask Power he was active in union activities and was known as a skilled and valued negotiator. As a result of his hard earned and well-deserved reputation, he ended his career by working for ten years for the provincial department of labour as a "conciliator". In that time Cliff was responsible in putting together some of the biggest and most challenging labour contracts in the public and private sector. It was this same skill set that allowed Cliff to be so successful in all aspects of his life. Once you met Cliff you immediately liked and trusted him. He loved to be around his family and his friends. He was able to take "early" retirement at age 55 and he and Joan made the most of it as until very recently they were extremely active. Throughout his life Cliff loved to spend time with his children and this continued until the end. Recently Cliff celebrated his 82nd birthday with family at his home. He loved and adored his grandchildren and his young great grandsons. He has said that the best thing he did in his life besides marrying Joan was to purchase a modest summer cottage at Last Mountain Lake. A lifetime of memories were had at the lake with family and treasured friends. As time passed and the cottage was sold he continued to make memories at Troy's cottage at the same lake that he enjoyed. He and Joan looked forward to their yearly escapes from the winters by escaping to Palm Springs to visit family and friends. He continued to drive to Palm Springs as recently as this past March. He was introduced to the Okanagan, BC six years ago and loved his yearly summer visits there. The winter ritual of trips to Mexico began seven years ago and his family will miss him on those trips that he so enjoyed. Throughout his life Cliff was an avid sports fan and was true Rider fan having season tickets for some 40 years. His family and friends were indeed lucky to have had Cliff in their lives. Gratitude and appreciation are extended to Cliff's life-long physician Dr. Donavon Brown, and the caring, compassionate doctors, nurses and support staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. Special thanks to Len Callendar, Cliff’s dear friend, who made daily trips to the hospital to comfort Cliff and the family. Another special thank you to Chaplin Cliff Geiger, who also visited daily. A celebration of Cliff's life will be held for family and friends at the Pioneer Telephone Activity Centre located at 2106 1st Ave, Regina, Sk., at 2pm on Thursday August 28, 2014. Parking is available at the Sasktel Training Centre across the street. The family respectfully wishes that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Celebration arrangements entrusted to Victoria Avenue Funeral Home.
