Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Shirley Carpenter, brother David, sisters Susan and Linda and brother in law George Day.
Nancy is survived by her daughters LaVonne (David) Morris and Denise (Lee) Derrick. Her grandchildren Karlee (Jeremy) Flatt, Kirk and Kory Derrick and Emily Morris. Her sisters Marilyn Day and Cindy Carpenter of Auburn NY, Barbara (David) Langtry of Moravia, NY. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and Godchildren. She also leaves behind Precious, her dog who she loved with all her heart.
Nancy was born in Fort Benning, Georgia while her father was in the army. The oldest of 6 girls and 1 boy, they spent their next years moving from Georgia to Oklahoma to Japan to Massachusetts then back to Georgia, Germany, and Kentucky. She was married in Switzerland in 1965, and after living a couple more places, came to Michigan with her new husband. She went back to Auburn as often as possible, besides being with her kids and grandkids, it was her favorite place to be.
She started working when her daughters were in high school at the neighborhood dairy store. Nancy worked many years as the receptionist at Addington Place, an assisted living/Alzheimer’s residence. She loved being around the residents and their families and she always had stories to tell.
She loved making the holidays special for her family. You could count on her for hiding Easter eggs and always forgetting where at least one was, someone finding it days or weeks later. Or weeks after Christmas finding presents she hid but forgot where they were, so we sometimes would open presents into January. She would make a mandarin orange cake every Christmas because she knew it was her sister in law Judy’s favorite and cookie cups because they were everyone’s favorite.
Her grandkids were her life. She made sure Karlee, Kirk, Kory and Emily knew how much she loved them. Whether it was baking with them, going to their activities, or just spending time with them was her favorite thing to do.
A funeral visitation for Nancy will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 25450 Plymouth Rd., Redford, Michigan 48239, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM.
