Roberta Hudson Taylor passed away peacefully on February 17, 2021 at the age of 91 in Rocklin, California. She was born on December 22, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana and lived in Visalia, California from 2011 until shortly before her passing.
Roberta is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years Arthur D. Taylor Sr., her daughter Roz Taylor, and her parents Alexander and Albertha Hudson.
Roberta grew up in Indianapolis in a large, boisterous, and affectionate family. After graduating high school, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana and her Master of Arts Degree in Education from Chico State University in Chico, California.
Roberta’s passion and career for over 50 years lay in teaching. For 34 years she was a high school teacher and administrator at Shasta High School, Pioneer High School, and Enterprise High School in Redding, California. Throughout her teaching career she ran a reading skills and comprehension business for children and adults. After retirement Roberta and Art (former Dean of Students at Shasta College) started a charter school, Dynamics Research Resource Skills Center, in Redding, CA to provide vocational opportunities for students who struggled to realize their potential in a larger school setting.
Roberta is survived by her daughter Roberta Lively with her husband Dr. Harry Lively of Visalia, California, and her son Arthur D. Taylor II with his wife Debra Taylor of Rocklin, California. She leaves her brother Leon Hudson and his extended family of Lancaster, CA and Tehachapi, CA and her sister Julia Turner and her extended family of Grand Rapids, MI, Suisun, CA and Brooklyn, NY.
Roberta has three grandchildren: Trenton A. Lively, Arthur D. Taylor III, and Alexandra C. Taylor, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Roberta was a loving mother and wife, faithful to her religion, cherishing of her family, and always surrounded by happiness and inspiration from family and friends. She will be deeply missed.
