Judy Carol Hatfield, born June 20, 1957 in Harbor, California, passed away August 14, 2023 in Redding, California at the age of 66. She was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2019 and succumbed to complications of the disease after a difficult battle. She is predeceased by her husband, Wayne Hatfield, her Mother, Thelma Seymour and brothers John David Shafer and Steve Shafer. She leaves behind her children Sarah Wagenman, (Jerimi), Redding, Linsey Michael, (Sean) Red Bluff, Wyatt Hatfield (Nicole), Winton; her step-children Gina Heyrend (Arron), Kenai, Alaska and Dylan Hatfield (Isabel), Chico; her siblings Thelma Jeanne Williams, Red Bluff, Kenneth Shafer, Red Bluff and Sharon Wilkes, Brookings, Oregon; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was of a big family; all of whom loved her dearly.
Judy was raised in Tehama County, spending early childhood on a farm in Richfield with her family. After relocating to Red Bluff in 1962, she attended all the local schools. She was a rebel in her soul -once she turned 13 years, being so brave in 1970 as to hitchhike to Los Angeles. Upon her return, she was a feisty character, being the youngest and gave her mother a test of will. At 16 she married Dennis McManus and they gave birth to Sarah. Dennis was a part of our family until his untimely death in 1989.
Judy met the love of her life Wayne Hatfield and they later married spending over 38 years together. Judy and Wayne had a love for the outdoors and spent much of their free time fishing on the Sacramento River and hunting all over Northern California. Judy worked with Wayne at Sierra Pacific for several years. She also worked for Kragen Auto as their Commercial Representative. After a work related injury, she retired for a time, until she could stand and walk without pain. Judy worked at the Home Depot upon its opening, and ended up later, with her sister, Sharon working for Tuscan Pools until she retired in 2019.
Judy, as a member of the One Moose, helped with many meals and was a fabulous cook. She was kind to everyone she met and could engage in long conversations if given the opportunity. She was an absolute die-hard 49er fan. You could hear her well whether she was excited for a play or mad at the ref. She. Had. Opinions.
Judy was a warm and giving mother; a devoted wife and a wonderful sister. We know she is walking amongst her family in the great wide open; finally freed of the disease that befell her. May she walk freely with that big beautiful smile she would share with all whom she encountered.
We ask for you to join us in a celebration of life at the Red Bluff Moose Lodge 11745 Hwy 99W at 12 pm on October 7, 2023.
