Born in Columbia, Pa., he was the son of the late Leonard and Ida G. (Smith) Brommer. He was preceded in death by his only sibling, Anna Brommer Amway Ranck.
Ted was the husband of the late Ruth K. (Shalter) Brommer, who passed away in 1992. They had been married 50 years at the time of her passing.
A graduate of Lancaster Boys High, Ted received his undergraduate degree in secondary education from Millersville State Teachers' College. He earned his master's in education administration from the University of Pennsylvania, where he continued to work toward his doctorate in the same field.
Ted and Ruth were married in the summer of 1942. He taught avionics at Air Force bases in Champaign, Ill., and Biloxi, Miss., before his deployment as a U.S. Navy lieutenant with the Pacific fleet during WWII, during which he was stationed in the Mariana Islands on board a destroyer escort ship.
After the war, Ted taught mathematics at at Montoursville High before moving to Reading. He was employed for more than 35 years by the Reading School District, where, among other positions, he taught industrial arts, served as principal of Southern Junior High and worked as director of testing and research until his retirement.
He is survived by his children: Susan Mengert (William Jr.) Clouser of Audubon; Kathy (Nicholas) Klein of Amelia Island, Fla., and Stephen (Tina) Brommer of San Juan Capistrano, Calif. He also leaves behind loving grandchildren: Todd (Jin) Mengert, Amy Mengert (Chris) Fink, Casey and Corey Klein, Matthew and Kati Brommer; great-grand-daughter Kayla Fink, and nieces and nephews Andrew Amway and Mike, Sandra, Dave, and Diane Shalter.
