Richard Donald "Dutch" Dickinson, 87, of Wyomissing, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in the Reading Hospital. He was the loving husband of Mary Anna (Palmer) Dickinson. The couple was married in St. Mary's Episcopal Church on July 1, 1950. Born in Sinking Spring on May 12, 1927, he was the only child of the late Lloyd Lewis and Esther Martha (Graeff) Dickinson.
Richard was a 1945 West Reading High School graduate. He then joined the US Army and attained the Sharp Shooter award as well as the Good Conduct medal. When he discharged in 1946, he attained the rank of Tech 5. After returning to civilian activities, he attended and graduated from Albright College with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He was employed with Carpenter Steel of Reading, Lybrand, Ross Bros. and Montgomery of Philadelphia, Beryllium Corporation of Reading and lastly, Met-Ed of Reading as a Tax Accountant, where he retired. He was a member of the American Legion, former West Reading Councilman for 25 years, former West Reading Councilman President, Sunday school teacher, church Elder and Financial Secretary for his church, St. James Church in West Reading. Richard enjoyed swimming, fishing, golfing, traveling and going to his beach house in Rehoboth Beach. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Richard was known to say to everyone he met, "Praise the Lord!"
In addition to his wife, Mary, Richard is survived by three children: Patricia Dickinson Healey of West Reading; Diane L. Long and her husband, William, of Bethel; and David Richard Dickinson and his wife, Jennifer, of Millersville; seven grandchildren: Allison, Erin, Rebecca, Erik, Bryce, Sarah and Rachel; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 in Auman's Inc., Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home on Saturday from 11 to noon. Richard will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading.
