He was born in Reading and grew up in Riverside, a son of the late Nicolantonio and Carmela (Marmontello) Julian.
Julian was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Navy, ranked as Radioman First Class. In 2014, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. for his service at Normandy Beach on D-Day.
He retired from CarTech after 43 years , where he was a foreman in Ultrasonic Testing. After retirement, he and his wife Carmen spent 30 wonderful years living in Florida before moving back to Berks County to be close to his family.
He was a Life Lodge member of Victor Emmanuel II Society.
He was an avid golfer and had several hole-in-ones over the years. He had one of the largest known collections of different logo golf balls (over 20,000) and was featured in the June 1999 issue of Golf Digest magazine.
Surviving are his 2 sons; Joseph Julian, Jr. MD, State College, PA and Jeffrey A. Julian, husband of Catherine (Hain) Julian of Muhlenberg, Twp., PA, 2 grandchildren; Nicole M. Julian, Laureldale, PA and Michael J. Julian, husband of Kate (Frenzel) Julian, Exeter Twp., PA and numerous nephews and nieces.
Joseph was predeceased by his siblings; Margaret, widow of Emanuel Petricoin, Teresa, widow of John Cantoni, Mary, widow of Stanley Sychterz & first husband, Harry McCarty, Rose, widow of Vince Cataldi, Santina Julian and Nicolena Julian.
Service will be private.
