To know Steven, was to love him. He always had a smile to give away, some encouraging words, and a hug to share. He forgave easily, looked for the good in people and always seemed to find it. He leaves behind a legacy of love: of its importance in this world, how to share it with those around you, those that we stumble upon, and with those that need it the most, without restraint or judgment. His love will be remembered by many, especially those closest to him.
Born July 2nd, 1970, Steven is survived by his mother Jean L Stout whom he could always make laugh, amaze with his intellect, ability to forgive, and to see the other-side of a situation. His son Korey Cleaver (Marissa Romansky) knew him to be full of love, deeply admired his ability to have deep and meaningful conversations, loved his life-altering sense of humor, and deeply appreciated the peace and joy of watching a NASCAR race together. His sister Tawnya Cheuvront (Jeff), whose beloved younger brother was always there through thick and thin, no matter the circumstances. To his brother Robert B Cleaver, he was an older brother like no other, full of adventures and laughter. His nephew Adam Cleaver (Leah) always had his Uncle Steve proudly in his corner cheering him on. Remi, Taylor, and Victoria Leonard's Uncle Steven was always there to build them up, provide comic-relief, fun and excitement, or take the stress out of a situation when they needed it most. Yvette Cleaver was his touchstone and the love of his life. They shared in laughter, a marriage of 30 years, and had the joy of raising their only son who they are both so proud of.
Steven loved to travel, in particular to Jamaica or Florida where he could wear his flip-flops comfortably, sip on a Corona or Bloody Mary, smoke a spliff, listen to some Reggae (we remember him most fondly through the music of Bob Marley), and soak in the sun that he loved so much. Steven was a foodie of a different sort, mainly gravitating toward meat in tube form, oddly enough finding a particular joy when it came out of a can. Steven always knew where to find a good hot dog shop and you always knew you could find some French onion dip in his fridge. Recently, he was enjoying expanding his food palate with the help of his dear friend, the late Danny Kucera, an exceptionally talented chef. No doubt, they are together enjoying shellfish, salmon, steaks, and the other 5-star cuisine they were recently exploring.
Please join us to engage in some of Steven’s favorite pastimes in a celebration of life on Sunday May 26th (Memorial Day Weekend) where Steven would want to be remembered in the sun with flip-flops and a party.
Before the celebration of life, Steven will be cast free in Negril, Jamaica into the warmth of the Caribbean Sea. To join in the celebration of life or send condolences, please contact his son and family at [email protected] or at 1632 Fairfax Road Akron, Ohio 44313.
