Sonja L. Carnes

Sonja was born in Akron, Ohio to parents Leon and Gertrude (Simpson) Rinaldo. She attended Akron Central Hower High School and later earned her GED. Sonja was a resident of Garrettsville for past 20 years and had worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant in the Hospice arena for 15 years.

Sonja was an award-winning poet and enjoyed writing and posting poetry online. She also loved camping with her family, tending her large vegetable garden and being outdoors in nature. She was a mom to many and her children were her life.

She is survived by her husband Ward Carnes and her beloved children Sammy Nelson, Julia Nelson, Vince Nelson, Dalton Carnes, Ryan Carnes and Phillip Carnes. She will also be missed by her brother Carl Simpson and her sisters Sue and Barb.

Sonja was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received at the Wood-Kortright- Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 East Main Street, Ravenna, Oh. 44266 on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 12pm until the memorial service, officiated by Pastor David Ballert, beginning at 1pm.
