She was born September 12, 1936, in Hacker Valley, West Virginia, to parents William Ballard and Anna Alice (Barbe) Fisher. Shirley was an active member of Victory Baptist Temple in Brimfield. She taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the church choir. She retired from AMETEK in Kent after 30 years of employment, and was a member of Machinist Union Local 1203.
Shirley enjoyed the outdoors, especially watching the birds, tending to her flowers, and gardening. She also enjoyed the harvest of her garden and was well known for her canning and cooking. Most of all, Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James Lockard, whom she married on September 18, 1954, in Webster Springs, West Virginia. Also surviving are their children: Larry Dean (Colleen) Lockard of Geneva and Linda DeAnn (Larry) Cook of Rootstown, grandchildren: LeAnna (Arash) Ghahremani, Emily (Brian) O’Brien, and Damon (Megan) Lockard, great-grandchildren: Shaheen Ghahremani, Sheyda Ghahremani, and Drew O’Brien, as well as her brothers: Harold Fisher of Flatwoods, WV, Chet (Ruth) Fisher of Kent, and Dee (Shirley) Fisher of Hacker Valley, WV.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law Peggy Fisher.
Friends will be received Thursday, January 28, 2016, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Friends may also call an hour prior to the 11:00 AM funeral service officiated by Pastor Charles Whetsel on Friday at the funeral home. Private entombment will take place at Grandview Memorial Park.
