Larry G. Tharp, age 71, of Rootstown, passed away, Saturday, May 31, 2014. He was born July 5, 1942, in Mannington, WV, the son of Floyd and Vivian (Summerfield) Tharp. Mr. Tharp was employed for 40 years as a master machine setter at Jefferson-Smurfit in Solon.
Larry rebuilt classic cars and will be greatly missed by the “Good Guys”, a group of classic car enthusiasts that he met up with often. He loved car shows and his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. His generosity was appreciated by all who knew him as he was always devoting his time and energy in helping others with whatever they needed. He had a hard time staying still and would always be looking for a way to fix things for all his family and friends. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife: Virginia (Deskins) Tharp, Children: Reva (Bob) Johnson of Rootstown, Tammy (Chris) Miller of Ravenna, Tina (Ken) Carrigo of Streetsboro, Bruce (Nancy) Hall of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Brenda (Bill) Andexler of Independence, Rodney Hall of Kent, Rocky Davis of Streetsboro and Terry (Lynn) Davis of Mantua. Sister: Elaine (Jere) Hickle of Rootstown. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held for family.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made, in his name, to the American Heart Association.
